Hydroforming of metals: What it is

The hydroforming process consists in forming a component by means of the pressure exerted on it by a hydraulic fluid, such as water, against a mould. It can be applied to sheet metal or to hollow elements such as pipes or extruded profiles, whether in light alloy or steel. The material is inserted into a mould already shaped and is then deformed using high-pressure hydraulic liquid.

Hydroforming Simulation: How it works

Hydroforming simulation is the plastic mould deformation simulation that uses a high-pressure hydraulic fluid to form processing material at room temperature in a mould. Hydro forming makes it possible to make forms provided with concavity, which would be difficult or impossible without forming a standard mould, and is particularly used in the automotive industry.

DEFORM simulation software is also provided with an innovative function for the analysis and simulation of the entire hydroforming process, allowing for a complete virtual hydroforming process. The hydroforming simulation therefore optimises the length of the pipe, forming of the pipe terminals and simulation of the entire forming process.

DEFORM is the quickest and least expensive hydroforming simulation software at the “state-of-the-art”, which at the same time provides more information on the proposed process.
